When Kettlehead Tea approached me to create a range of quirky tea canisters to add to their offering of luxury loose leaf teas, I could barely contain my excitement. This was a perfect opportunity to get stuck into a style of illustration that feels so natural for me.

With inspiration drawn from the whimsical, dark and magically delicious Alice in Wonderland illustrations of John Tenniel, this range of illustrations were created using traditional techniques on modern equipment (iPad Pro). Cross hatching, stippling and texture brushes were used in abundance to create these seductively curious flower folk.

The illustrations were carefully planned to wrap around prestige canisters, refill bags and a diecut box, they are embellished with gold foil lettering and a poem on the back by writer Margaret McKay.
